Hardware Requirements

Nearly any modern computer will do in most cases.  However large scale networked implementations may require a dedicated server with enough processing power and disk storage to support high traffic environments.

Setup and Prerequisites Top

Before installing RepairShopPro for the first time, there are some components that need to be installed. You may already have them from another dependency or Windows update. If so, the installer will recognize the software is already installed.

* Note: Windows requires Administrator privileges to install applications and services.

(1)  Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. These are the runtime files. Click here to be taken to the download page. If your running Windows 8, then you will have to turn it on using Windows Control panel. To do that, follow these step-by-step instructions.

(2)  Microsoft Office Access Engine 2010 (optional). This is used for importing data from Excel spreadsheets. Click here to be taken to the download page. Make sure you select correct version (32 or 64 bit) for your machine.

(3)  Microsoft SQL Server Express 2008. This is the freely distributable version of the SQL Server database. Download the installer directly to your desktop then run from there. Make sure you select correct version (32 bit/64 bit) for your operating system. You only need to install database engine. Management tools are optional. Click here to be taken to the download page. * Note: If you are prompted to install Windows Installer 4.5, click here to be taken to download page.

(4)  Now run the RepairShopPro installer. When your done, there will be 1 short-cut (RepairShopPro.exe) created on your desktop and two (RepairShopPro.exe, Help.exe) on the Windows Start Menu. If your installing RepairShopPro Desktop, your done. The installer takes care of creating the database and setting up connection.

If your installing the multi-user version (RepairShopPro Enterprise) you will only be installing the client application. You will still need to setup your network and database server. For more information on installing database and configuring mulit-user access, see Help topic "Setting-up Database".

Credit Card Acceptance

RepairShopPro supports both integrated and external credit card processing. When integrated credit card processing is switched on, card transactions (Charge, Credit, Void) are fully integrated with main workflow using manual card data entry or optional card swipe device. Directory and File Permissions

If you use receive an error when trying to print or writing an export file, it's most likely because the account used to install RepairShopPro was not given write permissions on the application root directory. To correct problem, locate the "CBF Consulting LLC" folder in the root installation directory. Right click, select "Security" tab, then update the currently logged-in account with full permissions. If you receive an "Access Denied" or other error when doing a Back-up or Restore (RepairShopPro Desktop Only), it's most likely because the local SQL Server account has not been added to the list of accounts used to control access to the directory your writing to or reading from. To correct problem, locate directory then right click. Select "Security" tab then add SQL Server account with full permissions. See these step-by-step instructions.
